A Tree Hugger's Observations on Technology

Removed from the moment to moment struggle for survival of the natural world, we humans have the luxury to delude ourselves to stay happy.  As technology shrinks our world, we find our delusions clashing.  We should be able to find inevitable common ground in reality though.

Since before Socrates himself, disabusing people of their delusions has been a dangerous business.  It's scientist's job is to courageously face reality and observe cause-and-effect relationships.  There's no greater teacher than Nature.

Parismony is King - Nature doesn't waste.

We can observe parsimony in process codification & structural representation
  • Recursion - efficient embedding of instructions across levels of abstraction
  • A New Kind of Science - simple instructions are all that's needed to represent highly complex systems
  • Symmetry - half the representation, all the information
  • Yin & Yang
  • Orthogonality
    • redundancy is a form of waste
    • redundancy in representation leads to higher complexity interactions
